Letter from Thomas Atkinson to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter detailing the perilous state of Atkinson's affairs; his brother, [John Atkinson], will not help him by allowing him any money, and he has therefore been forced to rely on the good nature of a W. Slingsby, who has for 4 years past allowed them £100 to subsist on. Slingsby also "advanced" Atkinson £400 with which to live in London and take in borders, but this venture appears to have failed. Asks Owen to advance him £50 or £60 pounds with which he hopes to get two volumes of poetry published; inquires into the best method of achieving this.
