Letter from Joseph Smith to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter in which Smith says that he has seen Owen's letter to a Mr Marshall in which Owen mentions their new Institution which is nearly ready for opening. Smith requests that Owen open the Institution as it has been dedicated to his Rational System of Society. He says that the Institution is ready to be opened except they have not yet had gas fitted.

Smith describes the Institution giving the dimensions and capacity of the lecture hall and gallery. He says that they have had objections from the nearby church who have been giving sermons warning against going into the school or lecture room. However Smith says that this has had the reverse effect and the lecture hall has been full.
