Letter from Roger Casement to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Casement informs Owen that he has recently arrived in Belfast where he shall serve as a captain in the Queen's Royal Antrim Rifles, the Militia Regiment; writes that while he is currently aiding the fighting of political battles of the world, the war with "Russianism", in the future he hopes to have the opportunity to "fight the great battle in which you [Owen] is engaged".

Writes that he is hoping to marry an "old flame", and hopes to also make her a Spiritualist. Adds that the military men listen as fairly to the "spiritual and rational question" as any other.
