Letter from L. R. Marsden to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter outlining Marsden's recent spiritual experiences. She writes of attending a number of seances at which numerous 'incidents' occurring. These included a heavy table lifting from the floor, an accordion and bell being played without human aid and peoples clothes being tugged and snatched at. Other guests at the seances included Prince Luigi, Countess d'Aragon, Robert Dale Owen and his wife and Daniel Dunglas Home.

The letter closes with Marsden writing affectionately of Naples in light of her anticipated departure from the city. This is due to the imminent arrival of an American diplomat to replace the current incumbent Robert Dale Owen [with whom Marsden is in some way closely connected] as Minister for the Kingdom of Two Sicilies.
