Letter from John Robertson to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Owen is asked to subscribe to the National Swimming Society which had been founded in 1837. The Society's aim is to promote the "neglected Art" of swimming, both a life preserving measure and as healthy exercise.

Robertson explains that a machine has been installed to aid people in learning to swim and if money is being raised to provide more of these machines across the country.
