Letter from William Kerr to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Kerr informs Owen there are a number of individuals of "co-operative principles" in his home town of Salford who have come to the conclusion it will be a number of years before a successful community can be established in England. In light of this, Kerr explains, they have decided to emigrate to America so that they may live in a "community of property and exertion".

Kerr explains that they are all tradesmen who are determined to be the "Staff of a community", and who wish to go to New Harmony; Owen is asked his advice on this matter.
