Letter from Richard Bewley and H. Travis to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Richard Bewley, Secretary of Birmingham Directors, recommends John Finch for Deputy Governor of Queenwood.

Travis regrets that Owen’s article arrived too late for publication in New Moral World, explaining he "had not an opportunity of looking your paper over". He also tells that a lack of funds "compel us to go to work in a very small way...we shall be obliged to make the arrangements…of as little cost as possible." He reports that members of the London branch "talk of the injustice of employing the money of the working men to make arrangements for the middle classes"; he thinks that an address from Owen would "do much good" as "there is much misapprehension." There are proposals for a community printing establishment and Travis questions Owen regarding his trip to America.
