Letter from James Rigby to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Rigby provides Owen with an update of the progress he has made with tasks carried out on Owen's behalf. This includes unsuccessful attempts to see Mr [Pierre] Baume prior to the start of his trial following his dispute with Dr. Mills.

A copy of a letter sent by Mills to Rigby regarding the matter is enclosed for Owen to peruse. Mills explains in the letter that Baume's accusation against him is that he "induced him to sign a Deed which he did not comprehend", which was done for the purpose of fraud. Mills denies the charge and has brought a charge of Libel against Baume.
