Letter from John Finch to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Lengthy manuscript letter Finch conveys in fine detail the news from the Queenwood Community at which he occupies the position of Acting Governor.

Finch explains his reasons for writing the letter, and provides an excellent overview of its content, when he states that "all eyes are now turned towards Titherley [Tytherley], and good expectations are formed from our progress here, I therefore think it my duty to inform you [Owen] of what we have done, what we are doing, what we intend to do, who and what manner of persons we have here, their character and conduct and to give explanation of some charged against us by the Bishop of Exeter and other members of the House of Lords".
