Letter from James Rigby to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

This manuscript letter opens with Rigby providing Owen with a comprehensive update of progress made with tasks carried out on his behalf.

Rigby notes that he believes it likely that the newspaper stamp will soon be repealed.

Continuing with his theme of newspapers, Rigby writes he believes The Times has turned "real Democrat", pronouncing in a recent edition that the "day of the Aristocrat is gone by - this country can no longer be governed by a few families, who care for nothing but themselves...the ruling few must mis-rule no more" and declaring that "no one party can any longer govern this country" - which Rigby states is something Owen told all in Manchester some 15 years ago.

A manuscript list (written in a different hand) is present which appears to detail the locations where "bill stickers" have been posted.
