James Hill was a corn merchant and an Owenite social utopian. Hill and his wife, Caroline, established an infant school in Wisbech, which also provided adult education and recreation in the evening, based on Owen's New Lanark School. In 1845 he purchased Owen's New Moral World publication.

James Hill is best known as the father of the social reformer, Octavia Hill.
