Letter from Thomas Allsop to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which the recent events in France and the reaction of the press in England are discussed. Allsop writes he is grateful for the "homage of Louis Blanc" but believes because "he goes so far, is at once a great concession". The papers in England are "ignorant and afraid of this system - as by falsehood they become enemies & afraid of Truth". The Times refers to Owen as the "Great English Socialist" but Allsop believes the term has not been used "in sympathy".
