Letter from George Jacob Holyoake to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Holyoake encloses a poetic letter addressed to Owen, written by Jessie Williams, who wishes to see Owen. Holyoake offers his own opinion on the letter, stating: "The lines are not of such poetic merit as they ought to be... Better have been addressed to you and you deserve better."

In a postscript, Holyoake informs Owen that he was astonished by his letter in the Yorkshire Spiritual Telegraph, stating: "I sh[oul]d like to see such a case as you witnessed with the handkerchief."
