Letter from John Pearce to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter outlining a proposed plan for improving the conditions of the labouring poor through the formation of a "Society". By becoming members, able-bodied men gained access to housing and work so enabling them, without the need for parochial assistance, to maintain their families. This included making provision against old age, sickness, and widowhood, whilst also supporting the education of their children.
