Letter from S. Vieusseux to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Vieusseux begins the letter by listing a number of people and newspapers, both in Britain and France, whom he has forwarded Owen's recent journal. He then asks Owen to send him numerous copes of issues 17 to 21 of the journal so he may spread it further abroad, particularly in Switzerland.

He then states that Owen must have observed the "progressive decay of old society" taking place at the present time. Vieusseux gives a description of the persecution faced by catholic priests in some of the Italian states and the abolishment of convents and nunneries, and he fears this persecution may spread elsewhere in Europe.
