Letter from Geo. A. Fleming to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which Fleming provides an account of his recent activities. He received Owen's communications and placed them in the New Moral World, visited Mr Douthwaite and discussed the poor state of the building [Institute] in Bradford - meaning it will remain closed Sunday, and has sent Owen some newspapers in the same post.

Fleming writes of [John] Brindl[e]y and his campaign [to discredit Socialism] which is about to commence. Brindley stated he will hold two meetings with Owen or an "accredited agent", at which they will be allowed, to Fleming's dismay, half and hour to put forward their points. Fleming has posted bills announcing lectures by Buchanan and challenging Brindley to meet them on equal terms, with the proceeds raised donated to the unemployed operatives of Leeds.
