Letter from L. R. Marsden to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter opening with discussion of Spiritualism. Marsden writes she believes that the spiritual papers [which Owen had sent] can only give them half the information they can perceive from "actual observation of the phenomema"; Robert [Dale Owen] has kept a record of his "personal observations".

The remainder of the letter refers to a recent earthquake. Marsden writes of seeing people "kneeling in the streets praying to the Madonna" and notes that while in Naples itself there was "little injury" there was "immense" loss of life and desolation in the provinces.
