In this series of letters the main focus concerns the National Equitable Labour Exchange established at John Street, London in September 1832 and transferring to Charlotte Street in May of the following year. It was at Charlotte Street where Dixon became Secretary before being replaced by Samuel Austin in June 1834.

Dr Jacob Dixon (1818?-1890) was a British orthodox physician who converted to Homeopathy and became a member of the British Homeopathic Society. He held the position of Secretary at the National Equitable Labour Exchange, Charlotte Street London. In later life he became involved with Spiritualism, writing a number of articles on the subject.
