Letter from John Hawkins to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Hawkins notes his pleasure in receiving word from Owen of his intention to visit him in Goadlaming, [Surrey]. However, Owen is warned that knowledge of the visit must be entre nous (kept between them) as presently there is a "strong current of prejudice" against them. Also, secrecy would suit Hawkins as currently he is "in treaty for the Great Tithes" on his property [and associating with Owen could be detrimental].
