Letter from John Finch to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, written by Finch in an attempt to make arrangements to meet Owen; writes he is having problems "procuring money for roofing and furnishing our new institution [being built by the Association of All Classes of All Nations in Liverpool]"; asks Owen to take out a loan through one of his "old friends" until enough subscriptions to the institute can be gained; the intention is to open [the institute] on Good Friday and Owen is asked to attend for the occasion.

Closes with discussion of the Queenwood Community [Tytherley, Hampshire]; wishes to meet Owen to discuss the "code of laws", which he has drawn up, and the erection of industrial buildings and dwelling houses.
