Letter from Lavina Jannetta Horton Ryves to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Ryves informs Owen that she is recovering from being "very ill" and informs Owen that her court case is due to be heard next term and she intends to claim probate to the will of the late king, George III, for the sum of £15,000.

Enclosed: a printed copy of a letter written by Ryves to Queen Victoria requesting financial aid which she feels is due to her in respect to the close association her father, Anthony Hillman, had with the Duke of Kent, a copy of the reply refusing aid authored by the Queen's Secretary Colonel Phipps, and a copy of an appeal made on Ryves "to all those who can appreciate uprightness and integrity of character, and who can sympathize, with her distress".
