Letter from William Mcfarlane to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter, Mcfarlane writes of the "unjust" nature of his past life having been dismissed from the G.P.O following 14 years service. He also notes he had earlier served in the Royal Navy for 3 years suffering gun shot wounds in action off the coast of Syria in 1840. Since his dismissal he has become interested in "Socialism" and some years earlier attempted to write an essay on the subject; if Owen allows he will submit it to him for his opinion on the validity of publishing it.
