Correspondence of William Wilks

Scope and Content

This series of letters concerns the attempts to establish schemes of co-operation in the city of Worcester. Owen's scheme for Labour Exchange Banks and the relationship which emerges with the growth in Union activity in the area is discussed in some detail, along with issues arising which prevent the growth of co-operation in the area.

Also noted is the opposition to Owen's schemes coming from the Clergy in the city and the possibility of Owen and his followers having too many plans ongoing at one time.
