Letter from Charles Clyatt to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter discussion refers to financial matters relating to the Social Reformer newspaper. Clyatt writes of receiving a [bankers] draft for £20, but because Owen had made it payable only at 20 days [notice] this would have rendered it "useless" had he not thought of Mr [William] Ashurst, who cashed the cheque for him; a plea for Owen to make regular payments of £10 is made.

Talk turns to the progress of the Reformer, with Clyatt remarking that the paper is "much approved of [and that] all it wants is publicity"; suggestion a method of publicising the paper is made and if Owen agress further money will be required.
