Letter from Joseph Hansom to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Hansom documents progress of Co-operation in Birmingham. A meeting with Trade Union members is discussed; he writes that "as they had been ignorant of the scheme [co-operation] little more was effected than argument." He explains a plan to "secure" a grammar school – "a great instrument towards effecting our grand purpose."

Hansom observes that in Manchester and Liverpool "the men are ripe for action and only want a leader."
