Design for a Book Cover

Scope and Content

Black and white photograph of a design for a small book cover on paper [by May Morris], leaning up against a white stand. Only the front cover has a design, with a circle in the centre with two birds and a sprig of vine leaves. There is a circular motif in each corner. The photograph is pasted onto a page, along with 7MMO/1/168. The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris. The text on the page reads 'Unidentified small bd - / on 8HT paper / [could have been needle case - / except on spine / : . probable for a small KP / book]'.

Tiny black marks right quarter. Production method: gelatin silver print.
