Omar Khay Yam

Scope and Content

Black and white photograph of a design for a book cover, on tracing paper, leaning against a white stand [by May Morris]. The front cover features the title as decorative lettering in the top left corner. The rest of the front cover is covered with a very simple grape vine design, which has the effect of growing randomly, and is continued on the spine. The back cover has a small leaf and berry motif in each outside corner. The design is made up of lines of dots (possibly perforations), and has dark rubbing markings on areas of the page which are worked on. The photograph is pasted onto a page, along with 7MMO/1/164/2. The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris. The text on the page reads ' 'Omar Kay [sic] Yam' / pounced tracing / see Una Fielding's comments / and / K Sale Catalogue'.
