Black and white photograph of a design for a book cover [by May Morris], in pencil and ink on paper, upside down, leaning against a white stand. The photograph is not very clear. The front cover design is sketched to varying degrees of detail in four sections; with a Celtic style central motif surrounded by scrollwork, foliage and simple flower designs. The back cover design is sketched very lightly. The photograph is mounted upside down (so that the design is the correct way up) on a page along with 7MMO/1/170. The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris.
