Scope and Content

Black and white photograph of a design, in pencil or ink on paper [by May Morris], leaning up against a white stand. The design is of an exotic flower head, with very simplified flowers above it, and a monogram either side, within an Eastern style arch above which are two birds. There are dark rubbing markings on parts of the page that are worked on. The object was held and photographed at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University. The photographs were taken during research by Elizabeth Masterman, for her book on May Morris. The text on the page reads 'Monogram Cover / [?album / blotter?]'

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

Yellowing slightly towards the edges, very slight grease mark and tiny black marks bottom right quarter. Production method: gelatin silver print.
