Scope and Content

Alexander Werth to W. P. Crozier.

Location: Paris.

Voigt tells him that he expects him to return to Berlin at once. Voigt has stirred things up with his messages and he now expects Werth to be able to work there unhindered. He wants some assurance from Berlin that this will be the case. He believes he should have been allowed to handle Berlin without Voigt's interference. He suggests that Voigt return to Berlin instead. Voigt told people in Berlin that he had been sent there because of Werth's 'incompetence'. He (Werth) reiterates that the moderate tone he adopted in his messages was as a result of following his (Crozier's) instructions. He resents being treated by Voigt as if he were his 'office-boy'.
