Scope and Content

Robert Dell to C. P. Scott.

Location: London.

He encloses part of the information on the French press, which he requested. Lansbury phoned from Paris; he should be able to return shortly. His daughter met the Prime Minister's brother, Paul Clemenceau, on Thursday, who objects to his brother's behaviour in this affair, and also thinks he will be able to return, but the British government would need to ask. He thought that they had taken the matter too lightly; he elaborates. Paul Clemenceau also told his daughter that his brother bears no malice towards him, but people around him are hostile and considered the M.G. to be anti-French; the British Embassy is also anti-M.G; certain English correspondents are against him and work against him; he elaborates, and speculates on who is involved in the whole affair. Paul Clemenceau also thinks that the current French government would not survive the armistice; he describes the serious food shortages, lack of fuel and government mismanagement.
