Scope and Content

This collection contains minute books, annual reports relating to the running of the association and a uniform belt and visitors book with a signature from J. W. Rowntree. It also includes a large collection of legal and financial documents relating to a divorce.

Administrative / Biographical History

York Training Home for Girls was formed to care for young girls who faced difficult circumstances. It also provided a home for young girls who required training for domestic service. Only girls over school age were accepted.

The original home for girls was situated in Skeldergate, York and accepted around 12-14 girls, the price being 6/- per week.
