ALS to T. R. Glover

Scope and Content

Recalls their last meeting, at the Prime Minister's Committee, where he gave evidence on the State of the Classics in the grant-aided secondary schools. Details and evaluates his work collecting data on the position of Latin and Greek in schools, and the resulting report, which is to be issued as an educational pamphlet. Explains that he is gathering opinions on the pamphlet from a variety of people before its publication. Hopes to obtain the opinions of Glover and his daughter. Recounts his efforts to get the Cambridge opinion, first from Rackham, who was too ill, then from Maclean, who sent him a list of other people to consult. Discusses the merits of those listed, including Adcock, Shepp, Cornford and Professor Robertson. Asks Glover's opinion on who it would be appropriate to consult. Muses on a projected 'Classical revival'.
