Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Maitland (Ironfounders) Ltd , ironfounders, was established works at the Gartlea Foundry, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, in the 1890s . The company produced grey iron castings and by the 1960s their main activities included die casting for the motor industry, transmission casting of gear boxes, machine engine and tool casting and general engineering castings. In 1953 , the company was acquired by Fullerton, Hodgart & Barclay Ltd , engineers, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and was operated as a subsidiary company. The liquidators offered Maitland's for sale in 1979 but it is unclear as to who purchased the company. Fullerton, Hodgart & Barclay Ltd was liquidated in 1977, and, in 1982 , Maitland (Ironfounders) Ltd was also liquidated.
