Stevens writes that he is approaching the end of Notes toward a supreme fiction and is eager to send it off as he dislikes dwelling on completed works; responds to a query concerning the structure of The Second world. He declines their payment of fees to him and states his wish for Notes to remain a limited edition piece, in order not to rival Knopf as a commercial publisher.
