Scope and Content

Comprises typescript (incomplete) of a work entitled History of Swedish Literature in the 18th and 19th Centuries, intended for publication in book form; typescript of A short history of Swedish Literature, and notes on various aspects of Swedish literature.

Administrative / Biographical History

John George Robertson (1867-1933) was Professor of German Language and Literature and director of the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of London. He is author of a number of works on German literature including, A History of German Literature, 4th edition, (1962) and works on Schiller and Goethe.

Material is arranged according to type and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .

Acquisition Information

J.G. Robertson's widow gave the material to H.G. Wright who was Professor of English Literature at the University of Wales, Bangor. He deposited it with the Archives Department.
