Scope and Content

Includes letters from Charles to his family describing his the progress of his journey across the United States, to Honolulu, New Zealand and Australia, before returning back to England in December 1898.
Also includes letters to Charles from individuals across America offering accommodation introductions to members of local society.
Charles' intention to study the institutions of each of these nations is referenced in letters both to and from him - he references political frameworks, occasionally requesting political documents from officials, and also visits education institutes such as Grinnell College.
Along with the letters, there are also a small number of newspaper cuttings referencing the journey.
