Documents relating to the rateable value of mills. The majority of documents refer to the attempt to reduce the rates in 1928/9 as compared to 1923/4 following a slump in the cotton trade. There is also a transcript of a case which came before the Salford Quarter Sessions in 1897 `Messrs. John and William Hamer v The Assessment Committee'. The records contain a run of correspondence relating to the Rating and Apportionment Valuation Act of 1928.
