Herbert Brereton Aldrich was born on 13 May 1911 at Llwyfen, Castle Street, Ruthin, son of Herbert Evan and Edith Aldrich. His elder sister Edith Gladwyn Aldrich, born 1895, ran the family home, as their mother suffered poor health. The next daughter, Dorothy Arden, born1898, worked in her father's ironmongery shop, Aldrich & Co, The Old Court House, St Peter's Square, Ruthin . Herbert Brereton Aldrich attended Ruthin School, was very active in the Ruthin Scout Troup, which his elder sister helped to found, and became a published author of articles and stories. He was killed on 6 July 1944 while serving as a Captain with the 4th Battalion of the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Normandy.
