The image shows a mixed gender group, mainly in plain clothing, of children with shaved/very short hair. They have a mock up shop with two serving windows and scales, in front of it is a bench which a group of the children are leaning on and to the left side is a table, with cloth and items on it. In the foreground on the right hand side is a boy with what appears to be a tub of mud on carry supports into which he is digging a spade. On the verso is a request to return the image to Mr [Edward]Topham [Editor of Co-operative Union publications, 1927-1959]. Black and white. Location of subject: Russia.
