Scope and Content

Which initially come in the form of bound volumes but change, as from 1946, to heavy duty binders containing a charge sheet for each chargee. Each volume contains a name index, except where more than one volume is required for a single year, in which case the index for the entire year is contained in the first volume. For each chargee the volumes contain date of apprehension, description and date of charge, personal details of person charged and police constables or other persons involved in the apprehension and charging process, property found on the prisoner, name of Magistrate who heard the charge and result of trial or other outcome of the charge. From 1946 sections recording witness and prison visit details, plus any bail recognizance are also included for each charge, but the name of the Magistrate involved is excluded.
