Scope and Content

The papers of the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers were deposited in the Brynmor Jones Library in 1982 by the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians in 1982. They comprise three minute books, one spanning 1863-1871 and two spanning 1924-1928.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers formed from several small trade associations in 1863. The Hull branch met at Terry Street in Hull with the aim of being a self-help society. It later amalgamated with the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians through whom the minute books of the earlier society were deposited in the Brynmor Jones Library.
