Anastatic Drawing Society Collection

Scope and Content

Amateur drawings of views and sites in Wales, 1858-1862.

Administrative / Biographical History

The collection is made up of drawings and descriptions of various sites within Wales, from the journals of the Anastatic Drawing Society, 1858-1862. Anastatic drawings employed a form of lithographic printing, which was well suited to the production of facsimiles. The process was not widely adopted on a commercial basis, but was chiefly used by amateurs, and by architects to produce copies of plans. The Anastatic Drawing Society produced serial publications of amateur drawings from the 1850s-1880s.
