Scope and Content

From J. Walton Newbold (1888-1943), journalist and politician (Newbold was a former student of Tait's at the University of Manchester). Explains currently completing his Armaments and civilisation, and his next works will be studies of Irish migration and an economic history of the West of Scotland; also plans a book on West and East India commerce in 18th and 19th centuries. Mentions his debts to Tait, Tout, Unwin and Powicke, and claims Tout's teaching of Privy Council proved useful when he was a [Communist] MP in understanding Scottish views of Constitution; feels "English constitutionalism has very nearly gone by the board".
