From Adolphus Ballard (1867-1915), historian. Ballard wrote the first volume of British borough charters, 1042-1216 (Cambridge 1913); Tait completed the second volume after his death.
17/1 10 Sep 1908, thanks for gift of an article. Reports that he is working on 12th century charters, and has come across several charters from Lancashire boroughs, including a Lancaster charter of King John and two charters for Preston, but does not know where to locate them in original Latin.
17/2 9 Nov 1908, asks to accept enclosed [not present, presumably an offprint], which says throws light on "Domesday problems".
17/3 addressed to "Cuthbertson", 26 May 1915, suggests he visit on Saturday.
17/4 to "Cuthbertson", 15 Jul 1915, says will be in Oxford "tomorrow".
