From Allen Mawer (1879-1942), scholar of place names. Mawer helped establish the English Place-Name Society in 1923. Tait was first president and Mawer, the secretary. Most of the correspondence relates to EPNS business, including publications on Hunting shire placenames (1926), including a complaint by T F Tout that the Society had not recognized British Academy support; 148/4 6 Sep 1927, concerning placenames ending -ware; 148/10 30 Sep 1932, Tait's resignation as president of EPNS. Several items have notes by Tait on dorse, including on the "Liber Eliensis"
