Scope and Content

Olivier Archive. Vol. DCCX A (ff. ). “Henry V-document signed 1944”; an elaborate bound illuminated address to Olivier from the people involved with the film on the technical side. Signatures appear on two illuminated drawings, one of a castle and its gardens, the other as a mediaeval city seen from some cloisters.. The signatories include Roger Furse, Reginald Beck, Roger Ramsdell, Laurie Evans, William Walton, and Paul Sherriff, whose signature is ingeniously and minutely disguised as a banner flying from a castle pinnacle. The main text of the address (“The King’s a bawcock ..... I love the lovely bully”) is from Henry V, (Act IV, sc. 1); the address ends on the next page with the words “ ..... and that goes for you too.”
