Administrative / Biographical History
Edmund John Cuthbertson, otherwise known as Teddy Joyce was born in Canada. He originally trained as a violinist until an accident to his hand prevented him continuing with that instrument. He came to England in Jan 1934 acting as Master of Ceremonies at the Kit-Cat Club in Apr 1934. It was for this position that he organised his own band. He continued at the Kit-cat club until 1940. Teddy also set up a juvenile band plus an all girl band known as the Girl Friends which Ivy Benson featured in. He performed on various radio shows during 1938-1940.
Teddy and Chili first met in 1935 and became engaged a year later. Unfortunately he suddenly died in Feb 1941, aged 34, after suffering from cerebro-spinal fever.
