Administrative / Biographical History
The Selkirk and Kelso Co-operative Society was formed in 1973 after a merger of two smaller societies based in Selkirk and Kelso. In 1979 the Society had 5,219 members with services including 3 supermarkets, 2 butchers, a bakery, and 5 clothing shops. The Society was relatively short lived however, and after 11 years it merged with the Hawick and Jedburgh and the Border Co-operative Societies to form the Central Borders Co-operative Society.
