Scope and Content

The letter contains news of family and friends who Hughes has seen. George [Hughes] is ill and getting worse and is in "great danger" and his sons [Walter and Francis are named] and "poor" mother are coming. Hughes had a son named George but it is possible that he had a brother by the same name, as George's wife here is called Annie bu George the son was married to a Lena by 1914 [THL/4/3/1/1]. Hughes refers to having lost [to death] someone else therefore says "It will be hard for e to loose the two men I loved most .in a few weeks [of each other]". Hughes then refers to being angry as pound5,000 that had be subscribed in the city for a girls school had instead been given to the boys school, who already had pound6,000.
